Description
Butterflies such as the Heliconius Ismenius are day-flying insects and feed primarily on nectar. With large, often brightly colored wings, butterflies have the typical four-stage insect life cycle. In their adult stage, butterflies lay eggs on food plants. Their larvae, also known as caterpillars, will feed on the plants they hatched on. Adult butterflies can live form weeks in the tropics to several years in cold climates.
