Bordering the States Georgia and South Carolina, Lake Hartwell is a man-made reservoir that comprises nearly 56,000 acres (230 square kilometer) of water with a shoreline of 962 miles (1,548 kilometer). 9 campgrounds with a total of 524 campsites are managed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. More than 250 species of birds and 40 different mammals live around Lake Hartwell that was suffering from a drought.
