Part of the island of Hispaniola, the Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation after Cuba. The island became the site of the first permanent European settlement in the Americas after Christopher Columbus landed on its shores in 1492. Both the Dominican landscape and its people allow photographers to capture breathtaking images.
